Here's to the Nights

My tongue is still slightly berry-stained from the cheap bottles of red wine I shared with my roommates last night. I overslept by twenty-seven minutes and I'm still feeling drowsy.  My eyelids are just slightly pink, yet obviously puffy, and my voice is noticeably more raspy than usual.

So here I am, feigning composure in my wrinkled white J.Crew cardigan, pretending to do work, but really reminiscing on last night's "final supper" of sorts.

My roommates and I decided to cook a homemade meal of entirely too much Italian food and consume entirely too much wine as a final girls' night prior to our moving out.

It was a "happy-sad" feeling: laughing about all of our antics since freshman year, and crying over the fact it will be much harder to continue those antics after we are no longer sharing an apartment.

Last night was just the first night of a string of events leading up to our graduation.  I'm preparing myself for the next week and a half of "happy-sad" moments.

Here's to all the nights we have had together, and all the nights the next chapter will bring.

Last First Day

Oh.My.Gosh.

Today is my last first day of college, ever. (As an undergraduate, at least.)
I'm freaking out a little.
I'm not ready to be in school mode again. My winter break has been entirely too relaxing.

I'm also not ready for my life as an undergrad Terrapin to be over. But I'll hold off on that freak-out until May because Lord knows that will be an emotional post.

Wanna see a dorky picture from my first day as an undergrad Terp?
That's my first college roomie ever, as well as current roomie(!), on our first day of college at our Scholar's Program's orientation. Eep.

And here was my first desk ever, in the dorm room Katlyn and I shared freshman year.
I don't know...I'm feeling nostalgic.

Now the desk I use most is a "teacher" desk filled with hard candies and papers to grade.

Happy First Day back to all my fellow future Terp Teachers!
And Happy Tuesday to everyone else :)

Wish me lots of luck and energy...I'll be needing it this week.

Wait, it rains in college?

Wait, it rains in College?

...my precise thought the first time it rained, about month into my Freshman year at UMD.

Now, dismissing the second official week of school, we have suffered through more rainy days on campus than sunny days.  I feel sorry for the Freshman who didn't have a month of blissful sunshine to explore the beauty of campus with an extended tan, and who never got the opportunity to question if weather in college was ideally and radically different from weather in the real world.

This year, Mother nature soaked our white t-shirts at the Football home opener, and forced our Hunter rain boots out of hiding unseasonably early.

I have been subjected to a fair share of undesirable campus weather over the past 3+ years: a day in DC spent fearing the impossibility of a return due to a flooded Metro tunnel, the Snowmageddon of 2010 (although unhealthily enjoyable,) inevitably embarrassing slips on icy sidewalks, hail, tornado warnings, and now add an earthquake and hurricane to the list.  So let's be real, some of my best memories of college have been thanks to weather-related disasters. But not every miserably gloom day can turn into a University Holiday and not every time it rains do the bars have half-price Hurricane Specials. Ergo, I'd like to feel the warmth of some sunshine on this campus, please. If not for my whining sake, then do it for the Freshmen. I want them, too, to think "Wait, it rains in college?"

When it rains, it pours.  And we beat Miami. ;)

But I think I'd rather be in the hot hot sun like this time last year. And still beat Navy.

Anyone else want to do the anti-rain dance with me before I fall into a deep dark hole of a tan-less seasonal depression?

Seniorita

My Junior year of College has officially come to its conclusion with the completion of two Saturday final exams.  I couldn't have been more excited for paper-writing and test-studying to be behind me, but now that I am an accredited Senior I'm kind of wishing I could go back. Life Junior year was slightly reckless, minimally stressful (in hindsight) and awesomely fun. Life post-college is increasingly frightening, expensive and sad with ever day closer. I can't believe I only have one more year left in this awesome, awesome place.

Here's an end-of-the-year summary in a photo gallery of highlighted Junior-year moments:

Tailgating the MD v Navy Football Game @ Ravens Stadium
Advocates for Children, CP Scholars Graduation

Parent Tailgate for the Blackout Game

C's first year as a DL starter

Etown comes to CP for Jesse's 21st
The beginning of an excess of 21st birthday celebrations

Group Fitness Demo Team @ the NEC Fitness Expo in Chapel Hill

Relay for Life '11

Peace out Junior Year, it's been real.

Here's to a Senior Year where we have the chance to relive all these moments and more. Let's make this the best year yet, class of 2012 :) Love love love you guys
xx
Cheers

Rising Senior

"Good Morning Rising Senior,"

... who, me?

This is the greeting in an email I received this morning from my Academic Advisor in reference to next year's block-scheduling. Since freshman year I've dreaded registration day because my indecisive nature makes choosing classes a much more long and grueling process than it ought to be.

This year, I don't even have the option to choose my classes for next semester, as senior year for Education Majors means block scheduling and student teaching.  I've looked forward to simple registration for quite some time now, but the reality that fall 2011 begins my final year in college has proved to be more daunting than all my registration dates rolled in one.

Am I the only one unprepared for the beginning of the end?  It's hard to accept the fact that I'm moving past a period of my life where my biggest stressor was choosing what time to take "Children's Literature" on a Thursday morning...

DONE!

I'M DONE

I walked out of my FINAL final exam to some serious snow fall this afternoon..

For some reason the bitter cold, mild snowfall and the realization that I have NO more work to do until January 23rd put me into an instant state of laziness.  Things I've done today:

8:00 am: Went to the Gym.
9:30 am: Showered.
10:00 am: Realized Katlyn left with the blow dryer.
10:05 am: Frantically searched for a hat to cover my sopping-wet head
10:30am: Began my Journalism final..
12:30 pm: Completed the four essays that compiled the Journalism final.
1:00 pm:  (here's where it goes down hill...) Ate lunch.
2: 00 pm: Took a nap.
3:00 pm: Made hot chocolate and watched "Real Housewives: Beverly Hills" with Sarah on the couch.
4:00 pm: Blogged.

Maybe soon I'll pack so I can return to 354 Plainfield Road and begin my 5 week break of extended lethargy.
